This can range from cleaning the office work space to paying employees. However, there’s more to think about. For example, what if a client of yours suffers an accident on your premises? Are you financially prepared? Well, that’s what Public Liability Insurance is there for. If you’re unsure exactly what Public Liability Insurance is, check out our blog on Who Needs Public Liability Insurance. If you’re already familiar, brilliant. Although, you might ask yourself, what does Public Liability Insurance cover exactly?

Well, every insurance policy is different. However, there are three main aspects that your business should be covered for under Public Liability Insurance:

1. Legal Costs incurred in the Defence or Settlement.

Generally, claims can be pretty expensive. However, you don’t know in advance how much the cost may be for a settlement or a claim. In any case, you would not want the cost of the claim to be paid out of your own pocket. That would be financially painful. Ideally, you wouldn’t want any client or customer to suffer an accident at all. However, accidents inevitably happen. Therefore, you should be insured to protect yourself if your client ends up injured. Ultimately, Public Liability Insurance could be saving you the hassle of legal costs.

2. Loss or Damage of Property

Thankfully, Public Liability isn’t only for covering individuals. In fact, it could cover any damage or loss that may’ve occurred against somebody’s property. For instance, a window cleaner’s swivel washer slips from their grasp. It shatters their client’s car wind screen. Crack! Now, if you have PL insurance this should cover the cost of the damage.

3. Compensation for injury

If a client incurs some form of injury/ property damage or loss, they would want to be paid back. I mean, wouldn’t you? Also, as a business owner you’d want your client to be paid back. Similarly, you’d like to restore the natural order between your good relationship. Why? To prevent loss of business and gaining a bad reputation. Even though there are a few things that Public Liability Insurance may not cover, compensation should be included under any policy.

With this in mind, it’s worth knowing some aspects that Public Liability might not cover.

Here is a list of them:
